From Homeschool to College: Basic Course

a roadmap for acceptance and success at the school of your dreams

Demystify and simplify the process of finding and applying to college when you’ve been homeschooled.

What if there were a roadmap for choosing and applying for college that made the whole process easier, less intimidating, and more straightforward?

Well there is, and it’s offered in this course.

If you thought that being homeschooled meant that you’d have more obstacles to finding and getting accepted to the college or university of your dreams, then let me tell you right now, that’s not the case.

In fact, if you’re considering enrolling in this course, you’ve probably already got what it takes to be accepted to the school of your dreams, even if it’s a top-tier, Ivy League school with admission rates that make most other students say, why bother trying?

Have you ever worried that…

Getting into your first or second choice college or university would be a difficult, confusing, exhausting, or scary process (or all of the above)?

The process of applying to college with a homeschool background would be intimidating, or that schools would not take your application as seriously as they take applications coming from “traditionally schooled” students?

You would never be able to afford college because even state college tuition rates have been rising steadily, and the Ivy Leagues are completely out of your financial reach?

College might not be worth the time and expense it takes to apply, get accepted, and complete your degree, and that maybe you could get a good (enough) job without a college degree?

Maybe you’re just not ready for college, because although you feel excited about the idea of becoming an independent adult, you also feel stressed about leaving home and being away from your family?

Do any (or all) of the above describe how you’ve felt, or how you feel right now? If so, then you’re definitely in the right place!

Look, I know that applying to college and learning to thrive there after you do get accepted can be a nerve-wracking process. I’ve done it myself, and as a university professor, former administrator, and alumna, I’ve helped many first-year college students who have come from non-traditional backgrounds make that transition.

I won’t tell you that it’s easy, but I will promise you that it’s manageable, as long as you have the desire and the motivation (you’re still reading, so I think you’ve got that part covered), and are willing to get organized (this course will make the organization part a lot easier for you).

I want you to take a minute and think about a world where…

You are experiencing a time in your life where anything is (still) possible, and you can be and do almost anything you want.

The only limit is what you can imagine.

You have a clear vision and easy-to-follow blueprint for narrowing down a short list of colleges and a step-by-step process for when, where, and how to apply

You are confident that you have a plan in place to organize and analyze all the information you need to make the right decisions about selecting the college or university of your dreams.

You are truly excited to begin this new phase of your life, and you can go into it with complete confidence that you have done all the necessary background work to select and apply to the college or university of your choice.

You open your mail to find that you have not only been accepted into the college or university of your dreams, but that you have multiple offers from schools you would love to attend.

Now imagine…

You are in a place where you get to feed your brain every day, where you will learn to think in ways you never imagined before, and where each day you learn something new that will expand the boundaries of your world.

Your ever-growing circle of peers includes people who will become true friends for the rest of your life.

You have the skills and know-how you need to thrive as a college student and to avoid the pitfalls that can tank a student’s prospects for finishing a degree program, or that can cause that student to perform poorly in his or her classes

You have the skills and tools to overcome the feeling of being overwhelmed that plagues so many college students, especially in their first year of college or university.

Here’s what you’ll learn in modules 1-5:

Be aware of how colleges and universities have changed in the past decade, know what that means for the homeschooled student, understand how to take advantage of those changes, and maximize your chances of choosing the college or university that is best for you

Whether you have recently begun high school-level work or have almost finished, understand how the choices you make and steps you take now will demonstrate your academic performance and extracurricular interests. Learn how to showcase those choices in a way that will make your application distinct and memorable to college admission committees

Let’s face it, there are a lot of choices out there. While having many choices is generally a good thing, too many choices can also lead to confusion, stress, and even apathy. Whether you are thinking of a vocational/trade school, community college, or traditional 4-year college, in a rural, urban, peri-urban, or even overseas location, find out how to ask the right questions in order to make the choices that will best suit your needs and desires.

Lack of financial resources is one of the biggest reasons why students choose “cheaper” schools they aren’t really interested in, or choose to forego college altogether. It’s also one of the major reasons why students drop out of college before finishing their degree, often ending up thousands of dollars in debt with nothing to show for it. Learn how to finance your college education wisely and with foresight so you can avoid these pitfalls.

Being organized – in life as in school – is everything! Learn how to put together your portfolio of work and show the schools you choose just why you would be an asset. Find out how to create official-looking transcripts, how to prepare for standardized tests, and how to request recommendation letters that will make your application stand out among the multitudes.

Nancy and Kelly

We are a homeschool mom of a middle-schooler (Nancy) and university professor who supplements her kids' "traditional" education with homeschool materials (Kelly).

So who are we, and how do we know so much about getting into and thriving at the school of your dreams?

Kelly is a mom and professor of religion and women’s studies at the George Washington University and one of the founders of Cr8tive Wisdom. She is also a graduate of one Seven Sisters school (Vassar College), one State school (the University of Washington) and one Ivy (Columbia University). As a former administrator, she has helped many undergraduate and graduate students find, apply to, and get accepted into the colleges and universities of their dreams.

Nancy is a homeschool mom to a middle schooler. She graduated with a degree in History from Georgia State University. Nancy recently joined Cr8tive Wisdom as a creative partner for From Homeschool to College.

Who is From Homeschool to College for?

Students who are in their last 2-3 years of pre-college education. Whether you are near the beginning, middle, or end of your high-school education, this course will help get you on the right footing to find the college or university of your dreams.

Students who are considering early admission to college. If you have been taking AP or college-level courses and already have a good sense of what to expect in college-level courses, if you are motivated to enter college after only 2 or 3 years of high-school level work, and if you are confident in your academic abilities, then this course will help you figure out how to apply and get accepted early.

Students who are still on the fence about college. Maybe you’re not sure if college is right for you, or maybe it’s just not right right now. Whatever the case, this course will help you figure out what works for you.

Students who haven’t been very organized, or who have been hyper-organized in their high school years. Are you starting almost from ground zero, or do you already have your ducks lined up neatly in a row? Either way, this course will help you get organized and maximize your potential of finding and being accepted to the school of your dreams.

Who is From Homeschool to College not for?

Students who are not motivated to go to college. Let’s face it, you have to do some of the legwork here. If you don’t have any motivation to find a school that really inspires you to take advantage of this important time in your life, then we probably can’t help you.

Parents who don’t care about what their homeschoolers want. Let’s be real a minute here. Some parents are micromanagers in the extreme and want to control exactly where, when, and how their homeschooler goes to school, no matter what the homeschooler wants. This may work in the short term with some students, but if the motivation doesn’t come from the student himself or herself, the results won’t be what you hope. The student (or the student alongside parental support) needs to put in the work to make this work.

It’s time to take control of your life and be everything you want to be! You’re only limited by what you can imagine, and this course will help you expand the boundaries of that imagination.

So what are you waiting for? Sign up already!
